<p>Andrew Lansley&#8217;s announcement immediately following his appointment signalled a push for innovation to increase the bang for buck the health service delivers. This will lead to a move away from expensive software development products and towards solution driven packages delivered through a hosted model.</p>
<p>It has become evident in a number of NHS Trusts that unnecessary layers of governance bureaucracy are failing to deliver higher quality standards of patient care and are instead a hindrance and distraction, wasting vast amounts of NHS time and budgets.</p>
<p>Andrew Lansley in his first statement as Secretary of State for Health says <em>&#8220;We will need progressively to be more efficient, to cut the costs of what we do now, to innovate and re-design, in order to enable us to meet increased demands and to improve quality and outcomes.&#8221;</em> And continues <em>&#8220;This will not happen in a top-down, bureaucratic system.&#8221;</em></p>
<p>Better governance doesn&#8217;t have to mean more paperwork agrees eShare.<em> &#8220;Too much time and money is being spent on systems and processes that do not work, that drain resources and that fail to ensure high standards as they are intended to do. In the end it is the patients who are suffering and paying the price,&#8221;</em> explains Alister Esam, CEO of eShare Health.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The new Data Protection Act powers are clear: data breaches will allow the Information Commissioner&#8217;s Office (ICO) to fine Trusts or individuals up to £500,000.</p>
<p>However, if data breaches do occur, the ICO will take into consideration what measures were in place to avoid breaches. Transmitting data via email is not a sufficient approach in avoiding such breaches.</p>
<p>The solution is for Health Trusts to embrace secure server technology in order to protect patient data.</p>
<p>Many Trusts that have welcomed board governance software are already able to make online decisions in a secure environment, and will not be at risk of incurring fines from the ICO for data breaches.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The  Francis Report is clear: board governance must be a priority and managed efficiently.  The recent launch of The Healthy NHS Board give Boards guidance on delivering to these recommendations.</p>
<p>However Boards need effective tools as well as guidance if they are to be most effective in achieving the highest possible standards in board governance.</p>
<p><em>In its response to The Francis Report, eShare flags technology as an essential element to enable NHS Trusts to most effectively, and efficiently, implement the recommendations through effective board governance.</em></p>
<p>Heath Trusts that have embraced board governance software are already driving up board governance standards.  At the same time the same technology is helping towards reducing back-office administration as required by The Operating Framework 2010 and NHS: 2010-2015.</p>
